Rietgat policeman investigated for rape
A 33-year-old Soshanguve woman has opened a case of rape against a Rietgat policeman.
A policeman at Rietgat police station in Soshanguve is being investigated after rape allegations were made against him.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) confirmed this week, that the constable was under investigation after a 33-year-old woman reported that he had raped her.
“The woman reported to the IPID that the police at Rietgat police station refused to help her open a case of rape against their colleague a day after she was allegedly raped,” said IPID spokesperson Robbie Raburabu.
The woman said the police told her they would have helped if she had went to the station the day of the incident.
Raburabu said the policeman had not been arrested because it had come to light that he had a relationship with the woman.
“We have found out that the policeman is this woman’s ex-boyfriend. So, that makes this case a bit difficult. But we are continuing with the investigation,” he said.
He said the IPID was still waiting for the relevant technical reports, after which a decision would be made whether to arrest the policeman or not.
