UPDATE: Police hunt for ‘well-dressed’ thieves
Thieves who robbed Lynnwood Bridge jewellery store still on the run.
Garsfontein police are on the hunt for the eight people who robbed the Jenna Clifford store in Lynnwood Bridge of millions of rands of jewellery on Saturday morning.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said the thieves escaped with about R3 650 000 of jewellery.
“The eight suspects, seven men and one woman, were all very smartly dressed,” he said.
“They entered the store, and forced security staff into the backroom at gunpoint. They then looted the store and set off.”
Gumbu said shots were fired in the parking lot of the centre.
“Two cars were hit by bullets.”
An anonymous source confirmed to Rekord that the robbers started shooting with an AK-47 and a 9mm pistol after unarmed security guards started pelting them with stones.
No one was hurt.
Descriptions of the eight robbers and their vehicles were not yet available.
The store could not immediately be reached for comment.
Gumbu urged anyone with information on the matter to report what they know to Crimestop on 08600 10111. Tip-offs could remain anonymous.
