Deadly night on Pretoria roads
One dead, several injured in multiple accidents in Pretoria Central.
A pedestrian was killed and five other people injured in four different accidents along W’F. Nkomo (Church) Street in central Pretoria on Saturday night.
Best Care ambulance service spokesperson Xander Loubser said the first accident occurred on the corner of WF Nkomo and Prince’s Park Avenue around 21:00.
“Two pedestrians carrying a bed across the road were struck by an oncoming car,” said Loubser.
“Both were seriously injured. They were taken by ambulance to a government hospital.”
The second accident happened less than an hour later on the corner of W.F. Nkomo and Sophie de Bruyn (Schubart) Street.
“A taxi and a car collided. Both vehicles only had one occupant in and both sustained slight injuries,” said Loubser.
The third and fourth accident occurred within the next hour.
The third was in W.F. Nkomo right in front of the Pretoria West police station.
“A pedestrian was hit by a car. The car’s windscreen shattered on impact and the pedestrian was killed. We pronounced him dead before handing the scene over to the police for investigation.”
The fourth accident happened on W.F. Nkomo between Prince’s Park Avenue and Sophie de Bruyn Street when a pedestrian was knocked over by a Volkswagen Polo.
The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
