Fraudulent jobs advertised on social media
The public has been urged to take note of fraudsters advertising fake jobs and learnership opportunities at the department of correctional services on social media.
Job seekers have been warned to beware of fraudsters who advertise non-existent jobs and learnership opportunities with the department of correctional services on various social media platforms.
The fraudsters apparently request an administrative fee of R150 or more to secure a job at the department.

National Commissioner of Correctional Services Zach Modise said the names mentioned in the advertisements were unknown to the department and certainly not employees.
Modise said applying for jobs at the department was free and anyone who asked for money was breaking the law.
“We would therefore wish to warn members of the public and job seekers to be vigilant against falling prey to these scams.”
He said the perpetrators of the scam would face the full might of the law.
He said the department advertised vacancies and learnership opportunities in the mainstream media and on the department of public services and administration’s internal notices.
Modise urged the public to assist the police investigation into the advertisements and other related illegal acts.
“They [the public] should immediately report such incidents to the human resources unit of the department on 012 305 2000 or the government anti-corruption hotline on 0800 701 701 to assist the investigation.”
