Woman recounts robbery
A woman has told how a robber was nabbed in the west of the city on Wednesday.
A witness has told Rekord how a man suspected of robbing another man of cash was caught in Pretoria West.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she heard a commotion outside her workplace on Wednesday afternoon.
“My boss then ran outside to see what was going on.”
A Volkswagen Polo carrying four men had hit the pavement and burst a tyre.
“Three men got out and started running in the direction of Marabastad while another ran towards the CBD,” she said.
The driver of the vehicle, who was running towards the CBD, was then caught by men who were travelling in a bakkie.
“The men ran after him and caught him.”
The police and Tshwane metro police were called to the scene.
The men in the Polo seem to be connected to an incident elsewhere in the city.
Best Care spokesperson Xander Loubser said a man had been shot and wounded near the Quagga Centre in WF Nkomo Street after he had made a cash withdrawal.
The witness suspects the men in the Polo perpetrated the crime and were trying to escape when they wrecked the car.
Loubser said medics found the man in a serious condition with a bullet wound in his leg.
”The robbers had taken his car keys, wallet and the R10 000 he had just withdrawn,” said Loubser.
A local, who asked not to be named, said a similar robbery happened a while back at the centre.
Loubser said the wounded man was taken to a nearby hospital.
