Get circumcised at no cost
Free and safe male medical circumcision done in Nellmaphius.
You can cut your 4-5 any time of the year – at no cost.
This is the word from general practitioner Dr Ausie Nkhi, who performs free medical male circumcision in Nellmapius, near Mamelodi.
She has turned a house in Nellmapius Extension 1 into a permanent local clinic for free medical male circumcision.
Nkhi had been performing free male circumcisions in Nellmapius since 2013 and has done more than 1000 such procedures.
She said circumcision was an important part of the fight against HIV/AIDs as it reduced the risk by up to 60%.
“But this does not mean when you are circumcised you should not protect yourself by not using condoms,” the doctor warned.
“Male circumcision reduces a man’s risk of contracting HIV and some other sexually transmitted diseases. It improves hygiene and cleanliness of the penis. It reduces risk of cervical cancer among female partners.”
Males from the age of 10 to 18 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian when reporting to her for a circumcision.
Males above 18 years and above should bring their ID books for verification of age.
Nkhi said it was normal to feel pain, but this usually lasted only a few hours. Patients would be given pain killers before and after the procedure.
Wilgers hospital in the east of Pretoria had been very supportive with medical supplies.
Andrew Kotlolo from BP garage in Mahube Valley was doing his part by making sure that people were aware of the free male circumcision project.
The local clinic is at Nellmapius Extension 1 at house no 649 in Loeriesfontein Street, the same street as the Nellmapius Clinic.
Nkhi said: “We are also working with the Tshwane district health and most of the patients are referred to us by the Nellmapius clinic and local NGOs.”
Circumcisions were being done from the age of 10.
“Our main goal is to reach as many people as we can in and around Nellmapius such as Mamelodi and Lethabong,” said Nkhi.
“This year, we target teenagers between the ages of 15 to 19 years old because they are sexually active. We will also conduct HIV counselling before every circumcision.”
