Man arrested for robbery in Eersterust

The suspect lured his victim with the promise to return his stolen goods.

A man was arrested for armed robbery in Eersterust on Monday.

Eersterust police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo said the 30-year-old was arrested for robbery.

The man had lured his victim to the ambush by telling him he had recovered his stolen laptop and he needed to bring cash to release from a pawn shop owner.

“It is alleged that the suspect called the victim last week Saturday, to collect the laptop,” said Shibambo.

The suspect further told the victim to bring R10 000 because the laptop was at a local pawn shop.

“On arrival in Eersterust, the victim was assaulted and disarmed of his firearm. An iPhone and cash were also taken from the victim,” said Shibambo.

The suspect was caught at his girlfriend’s house on Monday afternoon.

He was expected to appear in court soon.

“The police will continue their investigation into the matter,” said Shibambo.
