Saulsville gets new clinic
The new facility aims to make the services more effective and affordable due to limited transport costs for community.
The Gazankulu clinic in Saulsville was relocated on 4 July and is now closer to residents.
Tshwane metro spokesperson Goitsemang Molaeng said the clinic’s new location would be convenient for residents.
“The metro realised the need for a bigger and better facility due to the rapid increase in the catchment area population and the increasing service demands,” said Molaeng.
“The new facility will continue to render a full primary healthcare package from Mondays to Fridays, 07:30-16:00, making the services more effective and affordable due to limited transport costs.”
Patients within the catchment area would no longer have to travel to other facilities for service becaues there was a better facility at their doorstep now.
Molaeng said the new structure accommodated disabled patients.
“The current structure was an ideal model and spacious clinic with good infrastructure that was tailor-made to address public social and health factors.
“With more space available, the facility has effectively addressed barriers like long queues, safety and security to patients and staff, infection control aspects and cleanliness, especially on rainy and dusty days.”
Molaeng said the Gazankulu clinic was one of the metro’s 24 primary healthcare facilities and aimed to represent the National Service Delivery Agreement (NSDA)’s four key outputs: increasing life expectancy, decreasing the maternal and mortality rate, combatting HIV/Aids and tuberculosis, and strengthening the health system’s efficiency.
The clinic started operating at the previous site in 1992, and provided comprehensive primary healthcare services in temporary prefab and tin containers.
“The clinic was supported by the Tirelo Sechaba Food Gardening Project and it was through this project the disadvantaged and vulnerable patients received fresh vegetables from the clinic’s garden.”
