Fighting bullying one pair of school shoes at a time

A community-driven school shoe donation campaign is helping learners from disadvantaged households regain confidence and dignity while addressing bullying linked to poverty and lack of school necessities.

A local organisation has taken up the fight against bullying in schools by donating school shoes for needy children.

The School Shoes drive is organised by Tsalanang NPO under the theme ‘Every pair changes a child’s future’.

Tshepo Ramoncha from the organisation said that no child should be held back because they don’t have shoes.

Ramoncha said bullying comes in many forms at schools, and not having school shoes and uniforms can make learners targets for bullies.

“The organisation pleads with local businesses, community members, and local stores to stand together and support underprivileged school children by donating school shoes, school bags, school jerseys, and any educational resources,” said Ramoncha.

Many learners in Mamelodi come from disadvantaged families and low-income households, facing socioeconomic challenges such as unemployment, high transport costs, and lack of resources.

“Many children in our community are suffering in silence because they do not have proper school uniforms and school necessities.

“Some learners are bullied, excluded, and lose confidence simply because they come from disadvantaged backgrounds.”

He added that the organisation believes that with the community working together, they can bring children back to school with dignity, hope, confidence, and pride.

“Every donation, big or small, can help change a child’s life and create a brighter future through education.

“Let us stand together against bullying, poverty, and hopelessness by giving children the support they deserve. “Change a life through giving. Every child deserves the chance to learn with dignity,” he said.

The organisation is asking for donations of new or gently used school shoes, school bags, school uniforms, and any educational resources.

He added that Tsalanang NPO remains committed to uplifting communities, supporting education, and building partnerships that create lasting impact.

“Together, we are building a brighter future for our children.”

The organisation’s next programme will focus on sustaining hygiene.
