Man arrested after killing robber

The home owner fatally shot a man after he tried to break into his house on Friday morning.

A Centurion man was arrested for murder after he shot dead an intruder trying to break into his house in the early hours of Friday.

Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said two men were apparently trying to break down a steel gate at a home in Sinorita Street, Erasmia.

“[The home owner] however fired shots. One suspect was shot and fatally wounded and the other fled on foot and is still at large.”

Police were alerted and arrived to find the intruder lying in a pool of blood with a torch and a knife next to his body. The items were confiscated by police, Moloto said.

The home owner was arrested on the spot and his firearm was seized.

“He is charged with murder. We appeal to the public for information that could lead to the arrest of the second suspect to contact their nearest police station,” Moloto said.
