Department of International Relations and Co-operative Governance’s (Dirco) consular services division was in contact with the South African Embassy in Paris to determine if any South African citizens were affected by the recent terror attacks in France.
This after 80 people were killed, including children, when a truck ploughed into a crowd watching a fireworks display in the French city Nice during Bastille Day celebrations on Thursday.
Dirco spokesperson Clayson Monyela said the French authorities still had to determine the identities of the deceased.
“At this stage it’s far too early, things are still happening on the ground. Our people will be monitoring the situation on the ground.”
President Jacob Zuma wished a speedy recovery to those injured and on behalf of the government, sent heartfelt condolences to French President Francois Hollande, the government and the people of France including families of the deceased.
