Man stabbed to death outside shebeen
Two men were seen having a dispute at the shebeen before the fighting started.
A Hammanskraal man was stabbed to death at a shebeen on Sunday night.
Solly Makhubela (33) was apparently with a friend at the venue in Kanana Village when this happened, said police spokesperson Colonel Manakana Sebapedi.
“The suspect was seen having a dispute [inside the shebeen] with the victim before he was attacked,” said Sebapedi.
Sebapedi said the two men took the dispute outside and started fighting.
“The suspect produced a knife and stabbed Makhubela in the chest,” said Sebapedi.
When police arrived at the scene, the victim was found lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
“He (Makhubela) sustained multiple stab wounds to his chest and was later certified dead after being admitted to hospital.”
Police then launched a search for the suspect.
“A 43-year-old man was arrested [early on Monday morning] in connection with the murder,” said Sebapedi.
“He was initially charged with assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, but the charge was later changed to murder after police received information that the victim died,” said Sebapedi.
The attacker was expected to appear in Moretele Magistrate’s Court soon.
