Robbers swiftly caught

The armed robbers were apprehended after Centurion reaction members reacted to an alert by a customer who was turned away by a KFC employee.

Two armed men were captured soon after they robbed a KFC outlet in Wierda Park, Centurion, on Monday night.

Centurion Concerned Citizens (CCC) spokesperson Hannes Du Buisson said a CCC member became aware of the robbery when placing an order at the drive-thru window on Ruimte Road.

“The KFC employee could not give her the ice cream she ordered and advised her to leave as an armed robbery was in progress.”

He said the member, Anje van Dijk, sent out an alert on Zello and while driving away.

Monitornet, Copwatch, Scorpion and community members of CCC immediately responded.

Shots were fired by the robbers as they were getting into their getaway car, which was spotted within minutes by a CCC reaction member.

“The suspects were apprehended in front of the Saxby Centre in Eldoraigne by Monitor Net. They arrested two suspects and recovered a firearm.”

Four of the accomplices ran away, he said.

“Police arrived on the scene later.”

Police could not provide more details at the time of publishing.
