Arrests made in high density operation
'"Although more arrests were made during the course of day, the main objective was to focus on the aspects of crime prevention," police said.
An alleged drug dealer was arrested in Wonderboompoort during a police operation on Friday.
Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said a man was caught with dagga in a taxi during the police high density operation dubbed Back to Basics.
“While we were doing the search and go, one man was found with 100g dagga inside a taxi and was arrested on the scene.”
Selepe said more arrests were made by the Tshwane west police cluster, but the main objective was to focus on crime prevention.
“The purpose of the operation is to address the crime problem within Tshwane west cluster,” she said.
“It is important to focus on all aspects of prevention and address factors such drug-related offences and intoxication that might contribute to people doing crime.”
Selepe said awareness drives at malls and recreation centres sought to ensure a safe and secure environment for Tshwane west community.
Operation Back to Basics involved several agencies, including the metro police, the rapid rail unit of the police, the SA Revenue Service and members of the west police cluster.
“The operation was successful judging by feedback from people at roadblocks at strategic points entering and exiting the city,” she said.
“They were happy to see the city coloured blue with officers and members working hand in hand.”
