Murder of ANCYL member ‘not political’
Bila will be buried on Saturday in Winterveldt, and the funeral service will take place at Winterveldt Multi-Purpose Centre.
The killing of a Tshwane ANC Youth League executive committee member was not a political but a criminal act.
This was the message from local branch (Mawiga Zone) secretary Floyd Thema at a memorial service for Jabulani Bila (30) on Thursday.
“His death was caused by a criminal act and the suspect has been identified,” said Floyd.
“Police have assured us they are working around the clock to bring the perpetrators to book as soon as possible.”
Bila died on Wednesday after he was shot at a tavern in Winterveldt last Saturday.
He was at the Lifestyle Pub in Winterveldt when this happened.
At the memorial service at the Winterveldt Multi-Purpose Centre, Thema condemned speculation around the shooting of Bila.
He said Bila earlier had a quarrel with an unnamed man at the pub over a girl believed to have been Bila’s neighbour.
“The unnamed man suspected that Bila was having an affair with his girlfriend, something which was wrong because they were only neighbours,” said Floyd.
Bila then went to an outside toilet to relieve himself. The gunman apparently followed him and shot him.
Bila was quickly rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds on Wednesday.
“He was a good comrade. He always had solutions for all our problems,” said Floyd.
“We share the pain and grief of the loss of Bila. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends. It is sad to lose such a young person.”
Floyd concluded his eulogy, by saying: “Robala Ka Kgotso Young Lion.”
Bila will be buried on Saturday in Winterveldt, and the funeral service will take place at the Winterveldt Multi-Purpose Centre at 08:30.
