
Police have identified an officer who was shot and killed in Mabopane, Pretoria North, at the weekend.
Constable Thulani Mdluli (32) was killed in Bushveld Road near Walters garage in Block B on Saturday morning.
He and another officer, Constable Moloisane, were in pursuit of a white Audi A4.
Police spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said the two constables were attempting to stop and search a suspicious vehicle around 05:00.
“We [police] received reports that there were two people inside the vehicle.”
Mulamu said one of the culprits was armed with an R5 rifle and started shooting at the two officers.
She said Mdluli was shot in the head and died at the scene.
Moloisane was not wounded but was transported to hospital for trauma counselling.
The two officers were stationed at the Mabopane police station.
A manhunt for the two perpetrators was launched, said Mulamu.
We are appealing to the community to contact the investigating officer Colonel Bok on 082-412-4047 with any information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects.
