Mamelodi man guilty in death of girl (8)
Mamelodi man will be sentenced on 22 August.
A 55-year-old man has been convicted for the death Nthabiseng Ramoroka (8), and the attempted murder of his wife Lizbeth.
The Pretoria High Court on 14 July, found Frans Kanyane guilty of shooting dead the young girl during an argument with his wife.
Nthabiseng was struck by a bullet which had gone through a corrugate iron wall of the shack she was sleeping in on 8 January, last year.
He will be sentenced on 22 August.
Kanyane of Phomolong informal settlement in Mamelodi East, had followed his wife over on to the neighbour’s yard when he fired the shot.
The angry residents assaulted Kanyane before handing him to the police following a citizen’s arrest.
Nthabiseng was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
Her mother, Jostina Ramoroka said she was very happy that the court had found Kanyane guilty.
“Though it will not bring my child back to life but he will also be punished for his sins,” said Jostina.
She further said she wished that the judge would sentence him to life imprisonment, and make an example of him.
Nthabiseng was supposed to start Grade 3 at Koos Matli Primary School later that month.
She was buried in Limpopo last year.
