Fentanyl ‘most lethal drug of choice’
“It is estimated it makes heroine substantially more dangerous.”
Private investigator Mike Bolhuis recently warned the public about a new form of heroine.
The specialist serious, violent and serious economic crimes investigator said fentanyl was being added to heroine.
“The synthetic pain reliever increases the effects of heroine. It is available in a variety of forms – powder, tablets, small squares of blotting paper and spray,” said Bolhuis in a statement.
He said the addition was thought to make heroine substantially more dangerous.
“The danger is not only to the addict, but also to law enforcement officials who may come in contact with the substance while performing their duties.”
Bolhuis said fentanyl was absorbed through the skin and caused severe disorientation, coughing and drowsiness.
“Law enforcement officials are particularly at risk and drug raids must be carried out to specific prescribed forensic procedures to prevent contamination.”
Bolhuis said dogs in K9 units were equally at risk as the drug had the same effect on them.
He said it only took one incident for a heroine user to become addicted.
“Once heroine has been used it infiltrates the bone marrow and remains there permanently. The skeleton is then systematically destroyed.”
Bolhuis said successful rehabilitation of heroine was almost impossible.
“Rehabilitation has an approximated 0,002% success rate. It is clearly the most lethal drug of choice.”
Bolhuis encouraged the public to contact him with any information regarding fentanyl.
“We urge you to inform us so that it can be dealt with – without putting innocent people at risk.”
