A man was ambushed and hijacked outside his house in the Moot on Tuesday night as he was waiting for his entrance gate to open.
Police spokesperson Captain Collette Weilbach said the victim was on his way home in 20th Avenue in Rietfontein around 22:00.
Weilbach said the man in his thirties said he noticed a dark-coloured VW Golf following him.
“The vehicle stopped behind him and two men, one armed with a firearm, approached him. They pulled him out of his car, overpowered him and took his vehicle.”
Weilbach said the VW Golf was later recovered in Pretoria West.
She said motorists needed to be vigilant and police offered the following tips:
– Be observant at all times. If you feel that you are being followed by another vehicle, do not drive home. Drive to the nearest public place where you can feel safe and report the matter to the police.
– Always lock your vehicles doors and keep the windows closed.
– Do not leave your vehicle unlocked, even if you think you will be away for only a minute.
– If something seems suspicious, do not talk to strangers, rather be rude and drive away.
– Use several routes travelling home from work.
– Your life is more valuable than your possessions.
She said anyone with information can contact the Pretoria Moot police station at (012) 353 5441, or the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line 32211 to report the crime anonymously.
