Man wanted for allegedly stealing grandfather’s money
His grandfather wants him to face the full might of the law for what he did.
Loate police are searching for a Winterveldt man who allegedly stole his grandfather’s money.
Thembinkosi Hlatswayo (20) allegedly robbed his grandfather of R2 669 before disappearing.
Police spokesperson Constable Petunia Chabangu said Edward Mogwatla told his grandson someone had sent him money through the Shoprite Money Market.
“While he [Mogwatla] was getting ready collect the money, Thembinkosi forwarded the money market message along with a pin to his own phone.”
“He [Hlatswayo] left the house and went to Shoprite to collect the money,” said Chabangu.
When Mogwatla later arrived at Shoprite, he was told the money had already been withdrawn.
Mogwatla was advised to go to the police and lay a charge.
“A case was opened, and police officers went to the Shoprite where the money was withdrawn to request video footage,” said Chabangu.
“Thembinkosi was positively identified as the person who stole the money,” said Chabangu.
She said the suspect has not returned to his family home in Winterveldt where he lived with his grandfather.
Police are appealing to anyone with information about Hlatswayo’s whereabouts to contact Warrant Officer Buti Baloyi on 072-237-8968/012-797-7800.
