Cattle and donkey owners warned against accidents

A motorist escaped unharmed after her vehicle hit a cow in Ga-Rankuwa, police said on Friday.
The vehicle collided with the animal on Friday morning, and veered off the road, the R565, near Dr George Mukhari hospital, police spokespeson Captain Matthews Nkoadi said.
The 43-year-old woman, was driving from Rosslyn towards Brits when the accident occurred.
Nkoadi said although the car was badly damaged, the woman was lucky to escape with minor injuries.
Nkoadi warned cattle and donkey owners around Ga-Rankuwa to keep an eye on their livestock as there had been a growing number of road accidents reported in recent times caused by stray animals.
Stray donkeys and cattle are a common sight in Ga-Rankuwa.
He said the number of accidents involving stray cattle had increased to worrying levels that required a collaborated effort by motorists, owners, the SPCA and the police to reduce it.
“We appeal to owners to be extra cautious in terms of keeping their cattle and donkeys out of the roads to reduce the number of accidents. The police urge residents who come across animals to herd them away from public roads to avoid accidents,” said Nkoadi.
He said owners who neglected animals, allowing them to roam around roads, causing accidents, could be charged with culpable homicide, even attempted murder or murder.
