Thousands stolen after withdrawals
Police warn against carrying of large cash amounts
Two people have been robbed of a total of R110 000 in Ga-Rankuwa.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mathews Nkoadi said both were stripped of their cash after making large withdrawals.
“In the past two weeks, two victims were robbed of over R100 000 [collectively] after withdrawing large amounts of money at Ga-Rankuwa Shopping Complex.”
In the first crime, a 49 year old man was robbed off R70 000 at gunpoint.
The second victim, from whom R40 000 was taken, was a middle-aged woman believed to be a loan shark.
Three robbers were still on the run.
Police also warned that robberies at W-Fi hotspots in Ga-Rankuwa were continuing. They cautioned residents to stay clear of these areas after 16:00.
“It has come to our attention that people are still being mugged at Wi-Fi-hotspots around all sectors. Criminals are targeting people, especially students at those spots.”
