Know what to do after a hit and run
“No one was injured; the vehicle just got damaged at the front.”
A petrol truck drove away after colliding with a bakkie on the N1 on Thursday.
According to the driver of the bakkie, he was hit by the truck around 09:00, said First Road Emergency Pretoria area manager Brian Smith.
“The big truck was travelling on the N1 north before Botha Avenue when it collided with the vehicle. It then drove off,” said Smit.
The driver did not get a look at the truck’s registration number.
“No one was injured. The vehicle just got damaged at the front,” said Smith.
Smit provided safety tips to readers, should they find themselves in a hit-and-run situation:
– Always check and memorise the vehicle’s registration number
– Know the model of the vehicle and its colour as well as distinctive marks on it
– Contact the police or visit your nearest police station to open an accident report
– Call your insurance to report the accident
The accident should be reported to the police before you call your insurance company as you will need the accident report number as a reference to process your claim.
