Dozens arrested at weekend

At least 61 arrested during the second weekend of Women's Month

Police have arrested 61 people during anti-crime operations in Pretoria at the weekend.

Marking the first weekend of Women’s Month, the Pretoria Central police cluster organised a unit to keep criminals at bay.

Police said August would be marked by joint operations and awareness campaigns in which female officers would take the lead.

The focus of this weekend’s operation was on property and contact-related crimes.

Police arrested three people for hijacking, 15 in connection with drug possession and/dealing, two for possession of stolen property and one for housebreaking.

There were also arrests for rape, attempted murder and cable theft.

The arrested will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court and Hatfield Community Court soon.
