Portion of money recovered after restaurant robbery
Police launched a manhunt for two men who allegedly robbed a restaurant.
Some of the cash stolen during a robbery at Panarottis restaurant at the Kolonnade Mall at around 21:30 on Sunday evening has been recovered.
Mall management said two men stormed into the outlet and demanded money.
“Apparently one of the getaway vehicle’s tyres was shot and the driver lost control. The vehicle landed in a ditch where some of the stolen cash was recovered,” said marketing manager Ina Kotze.
Panarottis CEO Pierre van Tonder had earlier indicated none of the stolen money had been recovered.
“The police are on a manhunt for the robbers.”
Residents took to social media after they heard gunshots around the area. According to some of the residents, about eight gunshots or more were fired in the alleged shootout between police and robbers.
Sinoville police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk they are investigating a case of business robbery and hijacking.
“We are following all leads and no arrests have been made yet.”
He said that there was an exchange of fire between the police and the robbers. No one was injured.
