Father and son arrested over drugs
'Drug trafficking has no room in modern society'
Drugs with a street value of R2.5 million were seized with the help of a Pretoria Hawks team at the weekend.
A father and son were arrested at their home in Midrand, said Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.
The pair was scheduled to appear on charges related to the manufacturing of drugs in the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The Pretoria Hawks assisted a Durban team and the National Intervention Unit (NIU) in raiding the duo’s home in Midrand.
“Approximately 5kg of heroin powder, 28 000 heroin-filled capsules and 5 000 Mandrax tablets were seized during the raid,” said Mulaudzi.
“The total value of the drugs was estimated at R2,5 million.”
Hawks chief Lt-General Mthandazo Ntlemeza, said: “Drug trafficking has no room in modern society. Those who think they can use our roads, ports and suburbs (to traffic drugs) should forget about it.”
