Twelve injured in a seven vehicle pile up

Most lanes on the N1 South were re-opened by 11:00 and traffic was almost flowing as usual.

Twelve people were injured in a crash involving two trucks and five cars in Midrand on Wednesday.

This happened around 9:00 on the N1 South after the New Road off-ramp, said Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe,

“All the injured were treated on scene by Netcare911 paramedics and other services. Those who needed further medical care were taken to nearby hospitals.”

Mathe said the crash caused major traffic delays.

“Only one lane of the freeway was open in the two hours after the crash.”

Most lanes were re-opened by 11:00 and traffic was almost flowing as usual.

Bestcare spokesperson Xander Loubser said the cause of the crash was not immediately clear.
