No immediate charges after robber’s killing

The shooter was attacked in his own bakkie.

A Pretoria motorist will for now not be charged for killing a robber on Thursday, police said.

Spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the investigation into the matter was continuing.

“No charges will considered before the investigation is concluded.”

Businessman Naeem Mohamed(37) was was waiting for his crew on a street corner in Marabastad in the morning when things went awry.

Msimango said three men attacked him inside his bakkie around 09:30. One of them was armed with a knife.

“They robbed him of IPhone 6 before he managed to draw his firearm and shot at the suspects. One was hit in the upper body and collapsed few meters from the scene.”

Msimango said paramedics declared the robber dead on the scene.

“One suspect, aged 19, was subsequently arrested and will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.”

The third man ran away.

Msimango urged anyone with information on the matter to the call the Pretoria central police at 012-323-5000 or Crime Stop on 08600-10111.
