‘Robber’ shot trying to escape

A suspected robber ran into trouble when he was shot in the abdomen trying to flee the scene of his crime in the east of Pretoria recently.
A Faerie Glen resident who was at both crime scenes, and asked not to be identified said a man was home with his wife on Sunday around 23:00, when he heard notices from outside.
Upon investigation, he discovered a stranger in his carport.
The informant told Rekord that the man fired a shot which struck the stranger in the abdomen and then called the police.
The stranger was arrested after items believed to have been stolen during an earlier robbery were found in his possession.
The informant said earlier that evening, about 20:00, a 68-year-old woman had been attacked in her home in Patrick Avenue by two assailants.
She was gagged and had her hands tied with her apron.
Her assailants took valuables such as cash and jewellery then fled the scene jumping over her wall on to the neighbour’s yard.
Until one was shot a few houses away.
Netcare911 emergency was called to the scene to treat the injured man before he was interrogated by the police who wanted him to lead them to his accomplice.
The informant said the information obtained led to the police to a location in Atterbury Road where they arrested a man believed to have been the second assailant in the robbery.
The police had confirmed neither the robbery nor the shooting at time of publishing.
