Super cops make double arrests
Two police officers displayed their agility when they chased and arrested car and cable thieves in two different incidents.
Two brave Villieria police officers were praised this week for their vigour to pursue criminals.
Constable Mandla Shai and Constable Farron Jeftha caught two cable thieves last Thursday, said police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits.
The Zimbabwe nationals were trying to steal power cables in East Lynn.
Police received a call around 03:00 from residents about men stealing cables in Lanham street.
“Villieria police responded and on their arrival saw two suspects running away,” she said.
“They managed to catch and arrest the suspects one after the other after a lengthy chase.”
One of them was found with a number of sawed-off electric cables
The two men were charged with possession of stolen property on Monday, she said.
The two officers cornered another criminal the following day.
They responded to an alert about theft from a vehicle.
“On their arrival, the suspects ran away from the scene and the officers gave chase on foot,” said Brits.
“One suspect was arrested while the other suspect escaped by crossing the busy N1 highway.”
Brits said the arrested man from Mamelodi East had been linked to several other crimes.
Shift commander Captain Anton du Toit congratulated the two constables for their sterling work.
“It is a pleasure to have policemen of this calibre on a shift. They are always friendly and eager to assist the community was possible,” he said.
