Hundreds arrested during operation Basadi

“Eight firearms were recovered.”

Over 400 people were arrested by female police officers at the weekend during operation Basadi.

Provincial police spokesperson Kay Makhubhela said operations were conducted throughout the country at the weekend.

He said 495 people were arrested for various crimes. Eight firearms were recovered, drugs were seized and 90 illegal shebeens were closed.

“Tshwane north, Johannesburg north and west, Ekhurhuleni and Soweto east were the locations targeted in roadblocks and police raids (search and seizure operations).”

Makhubele said all those who were arrested would appear in various courts on Monday.
