Brothers’ ‘killer’ could be linked to more deaths
Murder suspect remains in custody.
A 34-year-old man who was arrested on two counts of murder, briefly appeared in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
It is alleged the man shot and killed brothers Kabelo and Geoffrey Sekoati at a tavern in Mamelodi West, Section Q, on 20 June around 23:30.
Captain Johannes Maheso said the man arrived at the tavern in his vehicle, took out a firearm and shot the brothers, who were standing outside the tavern, and then fled.
“The two were rushed to the hospital where one was declared dead on arrival, while another one died a day later,” said Maheso.
“The police launched an immediate search for the suspect and he was eventually arrested in Mamelodi East on Wednesday last week.”
The man briefly appeared in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court and was remanded in custody for a week for a bail application.
He said the police were investigating possible links between this and other murders in the Tembisa area.
“At the time of arrest no firearm was found in his possession,” he said.
