Ngcongca joins Sundowns
Anele Ngcongca has signed a four-year deal with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Bafana Bafana defender Anele Ngcongca has signed a four-year deal with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Sundowns confirmed this Wednesday on their website. They said Ngcongca, who recently left Genk after the mutual termination of his contract‚ has joined the Brazilians as a free agent.
Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is known to be a keen admirer of Ngcongca having worked with him at Bafana Bafana.
With the right-back position looking a bit shaky since Ramahlwe Mphahlele’s departure before the start of the current league season, Sundowns saw it fit to sign him.
The 28-year-old was contracted to Racing Genk in the Belgian Pro League for nearly a decade before he terminated his contract in August.
Ngcongca had options locally and abroad, and despite indicating he was still keen on playing in Europe, the player has made his way to the current Absa Premiership champions for his first run in South Africa’s top flight.
Over the weekend of 10 and 11 September Sundowns will visit Port Elizabeth for an MTN8 semi-final first leg tie against Chippa United.
During the weekend of 17 and 18 September they must play the return leg of the MTN8 against Chippa, a date that clashes with Sundowns’ CAF Champions League semi-final first leg away to ZESCO United of Zambia.
The first leg of the CAF will be played on the weekend of 16 to 18 September and will force the MTN8 second leg to be played at a later date.
The Brazilians are set to host Platinum Stars on 21 September.
Sundowns host ZESCO in the return leg of the Champions League over the weekend of 23-25 September.
On that same weekend Sundowns will play a league match away at Chippa on 25 September and that game will now also need to be rescheduled.
The Brazilians also have a league home fixture against Bloemfontein Celtic set for 28 September, three days before the date that has been set for the final of the MTN8.
If Sundowns reach that final it will complicate the PSL’s rescheduling plans further, because as it means Mosimane’s charges will definitely have to play their MTN8 second leg during September.
Should Sundowns also reach the final of the Champions League, the PSL must also postpone all domestic fixtures involving the Chloorkop-based club for the weekends of 14-16 and 21-23 October.
