Robber with fake gun jailed
The man pointed his water pistol at the woman and demanded her handbag.

A man has been jailed for eight years for robbing a woman using a water pistol in the east of Pretoria.
Alexander Julies (19) was sentenced on Monday last week in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, where he was convicted of robbery.
Police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said Julies was arrested in Nellmapius in October last year after he robbed a 61-year-old woman of her handbag.
“The woman was waiting for a taxi to work at an intersection when Julies pointed a firearm at her and demanded her handbag.”
Sepato said Julies grabbed the handbag and fled.
A bystander followed Julies to a nearby fruit market in Nellmapius.
He alerted the police, who reacted swiftly and caught Julies with the stolen hand bag and fake firearm in his possession.
“Upon investigation, police discovered the firearm found in Julies possession was a water pistol,” said Sepato.
“We want to applause the efforts of the community member who assisted police in making the arrest.”
He urged people not to try and arrest a police suspect.
“Notify police immediately of any criminal acts in any community.”
