Police pounce community terrorising man
“We found a 38 special firearm in his possession with 13 rounds of live ammunition.”
A 29-year-old man was arrested in Centurion on Monday morning, in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said a police task team apprehended the man in Mooiplaats informal settlement around 04:00.
He said the Erasmia crime prevention task team was tipped off by Mooiplaats residents about an armed man who had been terrorising the community earlier.
“Police were told of the man’s whereabouts and responded.”
The man was spotted walking in a street, and the police found a .38 special firearm in his possession with 13 rounds of live ammunition.
He was immediately arrested and detained at the Erasmia police station.
“Further investigations revealed the firearm was reported stolen in June last year, from a residence in Wierdabrug,” Moloto said.
A docket for possession of an unlicensed firearm was opened at the Erasmia police station.
The man would appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
