Cable thieves target Centurion
“We have noticed an increase in cable theft in the Lyttelton area.”
Cable thieves seem to have targeted Centurion recently.
Vice chairperson of Lyttelton CPF (LS2) Loot van Dyk said: “We have noticed an increase in cable theft in the Lyttelton area.”
He said most of the criminal activity was taking place along the train line.
On Wednesday, LS2 and the Tshwane metro police received information from the Passenger Rail Agency of SA about a theft in progress in a veld near the Lyttelton SPCA.
Van Dyk said when members of LS2 got to the scene, they found a man with stolen cables lying not far from him, and arrested him.
Van Dyk said the investigation was ongoing.
He said in the past two months CPF patrollers had arrested five people in separate cable theft incidents.
Orange Fox Security also responded to the cable theft and offered assistance on the scene.
