No arrests in mob justice case
A 18-year-old and his friend were burnt to death during a mob justice incident in Atteridgeville.
No arrests have been made in connection with the mob justice incident in Atteridgeville West last Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Thomas Mufamadi told Rekord the case was still being investigated.
According to Mufamadi, an 18-year-old and his friend were burnt to death in Phomolong informal settlement around 23:00.
“Police responded after they were told about a potential mob justice incident taking place but their vehicles were stoned and forced back,” he said.
“The group assaulted the two men and set them alight before running away.”
Mufamadi said the two young men were already dead when police arrived, and the motive for the killings was unknown.
Two cases of murder were opened at the Atteridgeville police station, he said.
“We are appealing to the community to help us find the suspects.”
Mufamadi also pleaded with residents to never to take the law into their own hands.
“If you catch someone indulging in criminal activity, call us [the police] and we will arrest him,” he said.
