A new tourism department head office will be built on the demolished HG de Witt building site in Pretoria Central.
On Tuesday, public department spokesperson Thamsanqa Mchunu said the site was being cleaned up and once this was completed, a new head office for the department of would be built.
“The site is being cleaned up and the ultimate plan is to build the new tourism department head office. We cannot provide a time frame as to when it will be built and completed,” said Mchunu.

A source known to Rekord said before the building was demolished on Sunday, it was a drug den filled with nyaope addicts, drug dealers and prostitutes.
“All those people who were in there were forced to vacate. The building was deteriorating and was not longer safe,” said the source.
Percy Piper, project manager for demolition contractor Jet Demolition said: “It took us four months to prepare before we could demolish the building. We now have the task of cleaning up the rubble. I cannot comment on how long it will take to complete this.”
He added that Jet Demolition had brought its own security to guard the site.
Department of tourism spokesperson Trevor Bloem could not be reached for comment at the time of publishing.
