New corporate and shared services MMC plans to bring good governance

Young 29-year-old mandate is to turn the city’s corporate infrastructure around.

The new corporate and shared services MMC is a young 29-year-old, whose mandate is to turn the city’s corporate infrastructure around.

Cilliers Brink was appointed as the new MMC for corporate and shared services when the new mayor Solly Msimanga took over from Kgosientso Ramokgopa.

Brink has been a councillor in the city since 2011 and has served on several committees which have dealt with municipal public accounts, economic development and planning.

Born and raised in Limpopo, he completed his matric at Kingfisher Secondary School, Phalaborwa. He currently resides in Monument Park.

He holds an LLB from the University of Pretoria and is a fellow of the SA Institute of Race Relations.

“I became involved in politics back in my university days. Councillor Michael Shackleton and I formed the DA Student Organisation (Daso). I started writing political letters to newspaper editors when I was around 11 years-old,” he explained.

Once he had completed his articles, he ventured into the paint and contracting industry.

The MMC’s role includes staffing, fleet management, legal services, information technology and customer care.

As part of achieving Msimanga’s vision for his term in office, Brink said he would end all forms of nepotism, stop the abuse of the city’s resources, improve the city’s customer care centres, fix the disciplinary system and ensure there is value for money regarding the tendering system.

“My goal is to fulfill our promise to our people, to bring change that stops corruption, provide service delivery and create jobs,” he added.

Cilliers is supported by his wife Mariska, his parents and fellow colleagues in the Democratic Alliance.
