Soccer tournament keeps kids off the streets
Thuso United were crowned the champions of the Kit Soccer Tournament.
A soccer tournament for the youth was held in Klipgat, Mabopane, last weekend.
Teams competing in the event in Mabopane Block R were Majuba Reaal Masters, Mhlanga FC, Thuso United and Ratanang United.
Thuso United walked away as the winners of the Kit Soccer Tournament.
They beat Mhlanga FC 10-0 in the semifinal and then went on to beat Ratanang United 6-1 in the finals.
The tournament was organised by Kit Media and Solutions as a way to promote healthy recreational activities for the youth.
“Sport could keep children away from drugs, gangs and other social evils,” said spokesperson Karabo Tshoke.
Thuso United coach Thuso Meko said he was proud of the players.
“They put up a fantastic performance despite the lack of sponsorship and resources,” he said.
“Sport is an excellent vehicle for youth development and for developing future leaders.”
Thuso said sport cut across cultural and social lines and was an incredible tool for nation-building.
“Today is about more than soccer or fun. We are here to touch the lives of all the participants of this tournament to tell them they can become anything they dream of,” he said.
Tshoke said he had always had a passion for sport and making a difference in the community.
“I am driven by the saying be the change that you want to see,” he said.
