3 pupils arrested for drug possession

"We received a call from the school to come and conduct urine tests and a drug search."

Three Centurion pupils were arrested on Thursday for drug possession and paraphernalia, said the Tshwane metro police.

This comes after Sutherland Secondary School ordered metro police to search the school’s premises and conduct urine tests on pupils.

“We received a call from the school to come and conduct urine tests and a drug search,” said metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

On the same day, the metro police arrested six people in an operation in the Highveld and Centurion areas.

Mahamba said the metro police and their SAPS and Gauteng Traffic counterparts had successful operations:

– 334 [traffic] infringement fines were issued

– Nine vehicles were found to be unroadworthy and the owners were given notices to take them off the road

– 41 taxis were impounded

– 172 vehicles and 140 people were searched

He said the operations were part the metro police’s plan for Transport Month [October] to ensure the safety of all road users.

Mahamba said the metro police would continue to enforce the law and to conduct these kinds of operations on a daily basis.

The pupils were expected to be released into their parents’ custody on Thursday afternoon, he said.
