Two arrested after police chase

Two men were arrested after they hijacked a vehicle in Stinkwater.

Two hijackers were arrested after a police chase in Temba, Hammanskraal recently.

Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said: “The two men had hijacked a 34-year-old man [in Stinkwater] earlier. The hijacked vehicle was carrying clothes and other material including an undisclosed amount of money.”

“The suspects spotted the police, stopped at a bushveld area, dumped the hijacked car and jumped inside a blue getaway VW Polo. They sped off and a high-speed chase started.”

Moremi said officers chased the men to a house in Lephengville and arrested them.

He said a black Toyota Yaris that was allegedly hijacked in Rustenburg on 30 September year was also seized.

The owner of the Yaris was allegedly drugged during the hijacking, said Moremi.

“He only managed to recover in hospital the same day the suspects were arrested and managed to open a case,” he said.

Moremi said the men faced charges of hijacking, robbery and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The were expected to appear in the Moretele Magistrate’s Court soon.
