A 21-year-old man was arrested in Eersterust on Wednesday in Selbourne Avenue for burglary and theft, the police have confirmed.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Sam Shibambo said alert residents had spotted a young man pushing a baby pram in a neighbour’s yard and immediately went out to investigate.

“They stopped the man and inspected the goods he was carrying,” Shibambo said adding that the residents had observed that the neighbour’s back room had been burgled.
“They arrested the suspect themselves then summoned the police to scene.”
“The police responded swiftly and arrested the man.”

According to Shibambo, the property stolen included the pram and clothing.
“The Eersterust station commander praised the residents for working together to apprehend the man and for looking after each other’s interests,” Shibambo said.
The man will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
