Crime upsurge in Laudium

The area has seen a spike in the number of armed robberies in the past few months.

A spike in armed robberies in and around Laudium appears to be getting worse.

“Crime has escalated massively in the area,” said a resident who asked not be named.

He said two or three armed robbery dockets were being opened every week.

The community had approached community safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane for help, but so far to no avail, said residents.

“On Sunday four armed men stormed a residential complex in Laudium and overpowered the security guard,” said a local.

“They went on to steal undisclosed amount of money from a home that they robbed.”

Last Saturday, eight robbers descended on a supermarket in Erasmia and robbed it in broad daylight.

The eight men were heavily armed and also robbed customers inside.

The violent nature of the robberies in the area was especially worrying.

On Monday four armed men robbed a woman.
