A 28-year-old “drug dealer” hid in a stormwater drain for an hour in a bid to escape arrest on Wednesday, police said.
Police spokesperson Anton Breedt said the police approached the man in the park in Wonderboom South in the Moot on suspicion he had drugs on him.

“During the search, he started becoming annoyed,” he said.
The police found 25 matchboxes filled with dagga with an estimated street value of R1 000 in a black plastic bag in his possession.
Breedt said when the police tried to cuff him, the man ran and hid in the stormwater drain under a bridge in Steve Biko Road.
Breedt said after failing to pull him out, the police sat and waited for the man to eventually come out of his own accord.
When he did, he was arrested and would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court at a date yet to be determined.
Breedt said parks in the Moot were becoming hotspots for criminal activity.

“This is a great concern to the Moot police,” he said lawlessness such as drinking in public and public drunkenness would not be tolerated, especially ahead of the festive season.
He said police arrested eigth people aged between 27 and 39 years in the Moot in the past six days in stop-and-search operations around the park and known criminal hotspots.
“This kind of unannounced police activities will continue, focusing on public safety.”
Breedt said the Pretoria Moot station commander Colonel Kate Malope and members of her team invited residents to join the CPF to assist in the fight against crime.
