Three cable thieves caught with illegal gun
The three suspects aged 31, 36 and 39 were arrested.
The Erasmia police are investigating a case of armed robbery which took place just before midnight on Wednesday at Sunderland Ridge industrial area.
Constable Tumisang Moloto said it is alleged that three armed men approached a security guard at a business premise in Ellman Street, where they pointed a firearm at him and ordered him to lie on the ground, face down. They then robbed the business of cables and fled the scene.

Moloto said police received information about three suspicious looking men carrying a bag walking along the bushes of Sunderland Ridge towards the Mooiplaats informal settlement.
“The police rushed to the area in search of them at around 02:00 on Thursday and spotted the robbers.”
He said when the police stopped the men and searched through their belongings, they found copper cables and other breaking in equipment in their possession.
The men aged 31, 36 and 39 were arrested.

Moloto said by further investigation, the police recovered a firearm which they believe was used when the armed robbery was committed.
The cables are valued at R1 500.
“We have opened a case of armed robbery, possession of suspected stolen cables and possession of an unlicensed firearm.”

They will appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court soon.
