Robbers nabbed after chase

Three men fitting the description of the robbers were spotted from the police chopper.

Three men were arrested after a chase in Erasmia on Friday.

Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said the three men were believed to have been involved in a number of crimes in the area.

The men had robbed a man in his mid 30s of his cellphone and wallet on Fortuna Street around 12:00.

Moloto said a swift response by an Erasmia patrol vehicle and other police units (Pretoria Central tactical response team, air wing) worked wonders.

“The team worked together and followed up positive information on the whereabouts of the robbers and located them,” he said.

“Our chopper spotted them and a chase ensued.”

Moloto said the robbers, aged between 22 and 41, were arrested shortly after.

“A firearm was confiscated as well as cellphones the men couldn’t account for.”

He said an investigation was underway to establish if the men could be linked to other robberies in the area.

A docket for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm was opened at Erasmia police station.
