Pretoria doctor, David Michael Adams’ bid to have the fraud charges against him dropped has failed.
Adams was alleged to have received unlawful payments totalling R396 660 from the labour department’s compensation fund in 2010 .
Departmental spokesperson Mokgadi Pela said: “The doctor had applied for the charges to be dropped following the ‘unbecoming’ conduct of one of the witnesses during his appearance last month, in which he demanded to be paid to testify.”

Pela said the defence team made the application because it felt the witness could no longer be trusted as credible.
Adams is facing 29 counts of fraud for contravening the Prevention of Organised Crime Act, and 29 counts of theft.
At the time of his arrest, the Pretorian ran a practice in Lehurutse, North West.
Adams pleaded not guilty in the Pretoria Magistrate‘s Court in September this year.
“Following his plea, his lawyer read an admission letter before the court in which Adams admits that on 19 January 2010, he had received an amount of R396 660 from the fund,” Pela said.

Adams is out on bail and his trial is expected to continue on 21 February.
The fund provides cover to workers injured and/or who contract disease at the place of work.
