New road signs warning drivers not to turn right have been erected on Simon Vermooten Road recently.
This followed efforts by two ward councillors, Ben Chapman of ward 41 and Elmarie Linde of ward 54, to try and prevent more accidents at this intersection.
Chapman said in November alone there had been about five serious accidents at the intersection of Simon Vermooten and Furrow roads due to a lack of signs.
This road was revamped in 2014, moving the off-ramp more south onto the N4 from Furrow Road, on Simon Vermooten Road.
The far right lane of Simon Vermooten Road used to be a right turn onto the N4, but this has changed. That lane is a now only a straight lane.

From now on drivers should turn left onto the ramp, when travelling towards Furrow Road.
“People still turn right at that road instead of using the new off-ramp,” said Chapman.
“The problem now is that accidents occur at the intersection of Furrow Road as people are not allowed to turn right there.”
The road signs were put up on 9 December and while workers were busy, various motor vehicles, trucks and minibus taxis took a right turn, increasing the chances for accidents.
