Mamelodi Sundowns big winners at the CAF Awards
Pitso Mosimane is the first South African to claim Africa’s top honour for coaches.
PSL and Africa’s football champions, Mamelodi Sundowns were the big winners at the Glo-CAF Awards held in Nigeria on Thursday night.
Downs were named Africa’s best team of the year for 2016 with the team’s coach, Pitso Mosimane crowned Africa’s best coach of the year.

Goalkeeper Denis Onyango won best footballer of the year based in Africa award.
Onyango beat off his teammate, Khama Billiat by 23 votes to win the the continent’s biggest football award.
Mosimane claimed the prize after leading Sundowns to the 2016 African Champions League title, beating off competition from the Democratic Republic of Congo and AS Vita tactician Florent Ibenge.
He is the first South African to claim Africa’s top honour for coaches.

The Brazilians’ coach adds this honour to the Coach of the Year award he won at the PSL Awards ceremony in May last year.
Mosimane’s team also won big after being named the Club of the Year.
Sundowns picked up the Club of the Year prize for their African Champions League triumph, becoming just the second South African side after Kaizer Chiefs (2001) to be bestowed with the honour.
The Brazilians beat off competition from African Confederation Cup winners TP Mazembe from the DRC, and Zambian Champions League semi-finalists Zesco United.
